Charlotte Volunteer Fire and Rescue Services (CVFRS), a private non-profit organization, located in Charlotte, Vermont, seeks to fill the position of full time chief of department. This position serves to direct and manage the operations of Charlotte Volunteer Fire and Rescue Services Inc. Duties include chief administrator, management of annual capital and operating budget, command of fire and emergency medical services, staff scheduling, maintaining all department licenses, hazardous materials mitigation, related training, oversee the maintenance of emergency vehicles, emergency equipment and fire station.
Charlotte’s proximity to Lake Champlain and Mt Philo State Park provides opportunities for marine and technical rescue operations. CVFRS is the only paramedic level service in southern Chittenden County.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.The ideal candidate possesses the following:
Bachelor’s degree and minimum of ten years of progressively responsible fire and
rescue service experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and
experience - NREMT and Vermont Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) certification and
appropriate NIMS training - Vermont Firefighter II certification or equivalent.
- Fire Instructor I certification.

CVFRS Job Description Chief of Department
CVFRS offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. The organization supports advanced training opportunities. Starting compensation will be commensurate with experience and certification within a range of $80,000 – $110,000. The successful applicant must complete and pass a background check.
