Lanesborough Fire Department Chief Leadership Update

As some of you may know there has been a change of leadership recently within our organization. We wanted to take a second to explain what has changed within our ranks and essentially introduce you to our new Chief Officers.
But first, we wanted to extend our utmost gratitude to our former Fire Chief Charles Durfee. Charlie is now the longest-serving Fire Chief in the history of LVFD and we can’t put into words how much we appreciate his determination as a leader. Charlie retired on September 30th but has continued to ensure a smooth transition of power. He has assisted our new leadership with continuing the work he started, leaving no stone unturned. Your unwavering dedication to this department has set an example for up-and-coming members for years to come, Thanks, Charlie. We couldn’t have done it without you.
Fire Chief(Car 1):
Last week, on Wednesday, November 3rd. Jeff Dechaine was elected by our membership to serve as our new Chief of Department. Jeff has served as interim Chief since Charlie’s departure in late September and has already been hard at work taking on the duties of Fire Chief. Jeff came to our department in July of 1989 at 16 years old as a Junior Firefighter. Over the years he has worked his way up through all ranks of our department. Most recently serving as Car 2(Deputy Chief) to former Chief Durfee. We are excited for the future of the department with Jeff as our new Car 1. Congratulations Chief!
Deputy Chief(Car 2):
Also elected last week were our two new Deputy Chiefs. As these positions were vacated by Chief Dechaine moving up and another retirement. Nico Amuso was elected by our membership to serve as one of our new Deputy Fire Chiefs. Nico came to LVFD in September of 2011 at 17 years old as a Junior Firefighter. Since then he has served in ascending ranks over the years. Most recently serving as Training Captain appointed by former Chief Durfee. Nico will continue to hold the role as Training Officer while serving as Car 2. Congrats Dep!
Deputy Chief(Car 3):
Last but certainly not least of our Chief Officers elected last week is Glen Storie. Glen will also serve as Deputy Fire Chief alongside, in equal rank to our other Deputy. Glen came to LVFD in the early months of 1990 serving in many different capacities during his time here. Glen was formerly the 1st Assistant Chief under former Chief Pete Oakley. Glen currently serves as the President of our Firemen’s Association. Glen has many years of experience in the fire service and this department. We look forward to what’s in store with him as our Deputy Chief. Congrats Dep!
These Chief Officers are just part of a bigger overall command structure of our department. We certainly do not want to downplay the importance of our Line Officers(Captains and Lieutenants) and firefighters. Keep an eye out for a future post introducing you to some fresh faces in our Line Officer ranks and some new firefighters.
